About Us:

Cailey Daluga

I was born and raised in West Lafayette, Indiana and came to Purdue University to study Movement and Sports Science.  I researched the history, the technological developments, and the rhetorical purposes in the art found within the time period of Ancient Greece.  Although I have never travel to the well known country of Greece, a desire to learn more about its past inspired me to choose this time period.  I was not disappointed through my research due to the plethora of books at each library about the art in Ancient Greece.   The completion of this project gave me a stronger background in the knowledge about Ancient Greece and a better understanding of rhetorical purposes in everyday life and throughout history.

Originally from Pasadena, CA, I now live in West Lafayette, IN as a first year student at Purdue University hoping to graduate in 2017. I am in the Pre-Environmental Studies Program in the highly rated College of Agriculture and I am leaning towards a concentration in Environmental Politics and Law. I have been involved in Girl Scouts, Tennis, and Swim team all throughout my life and have always had a passion for art. Taking AP Art and Design classes in high school really helped me develop my skills further and push myself to become a better artist.

This topic of ideal beauty has been an interest to me since it was first discussed in my AP Art History class and it has been exciting to bring that interest with me to college. Throughout this project I have learned about the ideal beauty and how it has changed throughout time, what it is today, and have contemplated what it will be like in the future. I have found my time period, the Renaissance, very interesting and enlightening and to me, it is interesting to look at how technology and religion as well as other societal factors have affected this ideal beauty throughout time.  Being able to work in a group and create a website has allowed my group and I to be creative, learn new skills, and produce something we are proud of.

I am from Whitehouse Station, New Jersey and I came to Purdue to pursue a degree in engineering. For my research, I focused on the technological development and changes in art history in the modern ages. The information I gathered consisted of materials found from the early 1900s to present day. I chose this specific time period because I knew that the information was relatable since I use some of the major technologies that influenced art during this time such as the computer and camera. After the completion of this project, I have been able to solidify my understanding of rhetoric and the importance it has on many different topics. I have also been able to make connections between how technology in history has influenced the ways these topics are communicated and how their rhetorical purposes have changed.

From Cincinnati, graduated Cincinnati Country Day School in 2013 and attending Purdue University with the intention of studying Mechanical Engineering. I chose to do Medieval times for my section because I knew some general knowledge about the period and I knew that the section would revolve a lot around Christianity and the Church.  All of my Grandparents are native Germans and very religious, so I grew up learning a lot about the Catholic Church and how it operates. When I was working on the topic I realized there was a lot more to the Churches artwork than just artists’ interpretations of sections from the Bible. I realized that there were a lot of things the artists would do similar to each other, like draw the halos in the same way, or make the religious figures shine more than the common people around them. Doing this paper was a very eye opening experience for me as a Christian and made me realize a lot more about the art about my faith than I knew before.

Alex Mo

My name is Alex Mo, Finance is my major, and my topic is prehistoric art history. I choose this topic because human beings have been creating art for tens of thousands of years. It is one of the earliest and most universal forms of expression for our species, and has been present since well before historical records of human activity. Art has historically been used to express things that people see in everyday life, how they perceive these things, and in some cases has been used to make historical records. Perhaps no type of art is more important to understanding the state of human existence at its time than Ancient Art, in the Prehistoric Period. While art from the time of Rome, Greece, moving into the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and modern art is more elaborate than this Prehistoric Art, Prehistoric Art is more important to understanding how people lived at that time, because this was before any type of writing system was created. That is, more or less anything we know about people from that time period which has been recorded by the people themselves comes from various types of Prehistoric Art, rather than any kind of written historical records. This will first examine the history of prehistoric art, including some early examples. Then, we will examine some of the methodologies used to create this prehistoric art, before finally discussing why prehistoric art is significant from a human history perspective.
